Sherpa Adventure Gear Sardar Short : Low Profile, High Function
I was intrigued by Sherpa Adventure Gear's men's Sardar short when I first saw it on the company's web site. I liked the sleek and practical-looking design. Once I received a pair to test, I was happy with the fit and glad that I didn't need any break-in time. They're soft and pliable from day one. The Sardar short is made out of a durable polyester fabric that stretches in all directions, stands up well to abuse, and dries quickly. I like that the short has a built-in belt and a gusseted inseam that allows me total range of movement whether I'm biking, hiking, or scrambling. All of these qualities make the short ideal for a variety of outdoor pursuits. The day my shorts arrived, I put them on immediately for a long bike ride and have been wearing them almost daily ever since. The Sardar short is not really intended as a bike short but it fits the bill nicely for me. I steer clear of the typical tight cycling shorts but that doesn't mean I like to wear baggy clothes that can slow me down when I'm on the saddle. The Sardar short doesn't inflate or ride up even after I get into a nice rhythm and am flying down the trail. I like the placement and style of the zippered side pockets; I can go about my business without worrying that my keys will fall out of my pocket. On a recent hike I came across a natural water slide. It was a hot day, and I couldn't resist jumping into the water. My Sardar short doubled perfectly as a functional impromptu swimming suit. Because I go "off trail" a lot on my adventures, I've noticed that not all fabrics glide over wet rocks (even water-polished wet rocks that are too slippery to walk on). My Sardar short was slick enough for a great ride down the flume. It only took a few minutes in the sun to dry my shorts, and I got back to the trail for the rest of my hike. I like that the material used to make this short isn't too thick or too thin. It's a nice weight that gives me just the right amount of protection and comfort. Another feature I like: plenty of flat, discreet pockets. In addition to the two side pockets, the Sardar short has a zippered thigh pocket on each leg, as well as one rear pocket. I like that the pockets aren't bulky and that they give me the space to carry the essentials: i. d., some money, a nutrition bar, and other small items. Available in sizes 30-38, in Tchampa, Peepal green, and Black. Also available as a convertible pant. Sherpa Adventure Gear also makes outdoor and travel apparel for women. Bottom Line: Clean design and a super cool fabric work together to make a very utilitarian short for a variety of activities.--A.S. (July '10) BUY ONLINE : $50,
